Adelphi University Presents the Adelphi Chorus on April 27

The Adelphi Chorus, featuring the students of the Department of Music at Adelphi University, will present a concert highlighted by a performance of Robert Ray’s popular Gospel Mass. The program will take place on Sunday, April 27 at 3:00 p.m. at the Concert Hall in the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AUPAC) located at 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY.

This joyful and dynamic setting of the Mass has thrilled audiences since its premiere in 1978.  In commenting on his work, Mr. Ray wrote:  "It is my desire to combine centuries of old traditions of Mass settings with sounds of the contemporary Black Church. The move from Latin to English created new opportunities for composers to express their feelings about the texts of the Ordinary of the Mass. I wanted everyone to experience the sense of joy and celebration that is generally felt in true African-American worship."  The chorus, under the direction of Michael Hume, will also present works by Johannes Brahms, Stephen Paulus, and Adelphi student composer, Shayne Plunkett.

Tickets for the concert are on sale for just $20 with discounts available to seniors, students and alumni. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit aupac.adelphi.edu.
