A Word From Mayor John Watras

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m.

Friday Night Promenade: On this, the last Friday Night Promenade, the following performers will be on Seventh Street: The Powerplay Band NY playing music of the 50's to present day, Gina Naomi Baez singing her country style pop music and magician TJ Tana showcasing his award-winning comedy magic.

This program began in July and I am looking forward to seeing many residents and visitors on Seventh Street as we close Seventh Street, between Franklin and Hilton avenues, so that residents and visitors to Garden City can enjoy the outdoor dining and live entertainment offered by local restaurants as well as shopping in the stores and shops who will remain open during the evening. This is the last Friday evening that we will be closing Seventh Street, so I hope that you are able to bring your family out to enjoy this fun filled evening.

9/11 Memorial Program:
The Garden City Fire Department will be holding its 12th anniversary of 9/11 by conducting a short service to remember those who lost their lives on 9/11. The program will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. on the Village Green (corner of Stewart and Hilton avenues).

Continue to Shop and Dine Outdoors in Garden City:
The residents of Garden City are very fortunate to have viable retail businesses on Seventh Street, Franklin Avenue and New Hyde Park Road where there is a good variety of quality merchandise and family dining experiences available to be enjoyed.  Please support these businesses and enjoy the products, variety and outstanding customer service. I look forward to seeing everyone in town.

LIRR Stewart Manor Station Improvements:
The Long Island Railroad (LIRR) has advised the village that they are planning to make some improvements to the Stewart Manor Station building roof. They will be removing the entire shingle roof and installing new shingles and other required materials. The new roof will improve the aesthetics of the Station Building and positively impact the local area which is mostly residential.

The LIRR anticipates beginning this project next week with a time frame of four weeks to complete. During the duration of the improvements, they will be using 4-5 parking spaces to accommodate work vehicles and equipment. Also, for two weeks there will be a 20-yard container on site for the disposal of the debris.

Board of Trustees' Meeting Schedule: The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a first-hand perspective.
