Girl Scouts Hold Scarecrow Building Contest at Garden City Library

(Editor's Note: The following was provided by the Garden City Public Library.)

On Saturday Girl Scouts from eight Garden City troops decorated scarecrows on the lawn of the Garden City Public Library.

Girl Scout leaders Jill Debany and Regina Van Blenis organized this fall event, which was judged by Gloria Weinrich, vice chair of the Garden City Library Board Trustees, and Amelia Alford from the Library’s Children’s Department.

“The Girl Scouts chose the library to display their scarecrows so that the entire village can enjoy the girls’ creations when they walk into the library,” said Debany.

The scarecrow display will remain in front of the library until the morning of Nov. 3.

Weinrich and Alford awarded Brownie Troop 1357 first place; Troop 1445 second place; and Troop 1432 third place. Junior Troop 1415 received first place; Troop 1261 received second place; and Troop 1274 received third place.

The troops who participated in the scarecrow building contest included Troops 1357, 1432, 1642, 1445, 1567, 1261, 1274 and 1415.
