Nassau County Police Department Annual Open House Week

Nassau County Police Commissioner Lawrence W. Mulvey announces that the Police Department will host its annual open house week May 10-14 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. 

The annual open house will celebrate the 85th anniversary of the Nassau County Police Department. It will take place in the parking lot behind Nassau County Police Headquarters, located at 1490 Franklin Avenue in Mineola. 

Open house attractions will include visits to the 911 Communications Center and the Detention Cell area of Records Bureau. There will be demonstrations by the Arson/Bomb Squad and the Emergency Services Unit. The Bureau of Special Operations will demonstrate how they rappel from a building and there will be demonstrations by the department's Canine and Mounted Units.

Exhibits will include the Police Department's Mobile Command Bus, Bureau of Special Operations Tactical Response Vehicle and assorted weapons, Highway Patrol Bureau, Marine Bureau, Aviation Unit, Crime Scene Search Section, the Police Academy and the Emergency Ambulance Bureau.  

Other activities include the Police Museum, KID-PIX Photo Identification Program, Children's Safety Town and a "radar" ball toss for children.

School trips are welcome and no reservations are required. Buses are to discharge students at the 14th Street entrance of Police Headquarters.
