Veterans Day Ceremony

Residents are encouraged to attend the Veterans Day ceremony at the village war memorial on Seventh Street. Brief ceremonies will be conducted beginning at 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the memorial on Seventh Street between the library and the train station, across from The Garden City Hotel.

A bell will strike at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to once again honor veterans, for that was the moment when the end of World War I occurred.

Commander John Donovan will lead members of the William Bradford Turner Post of the American Legion, other community leaders and members of the community in honoring devoted veterans.

"On Veterans Day we commemorate the service of veterans of all wars, living and dead," says Commander Donovan. "We remember how our men and women, many of them citizen soldiers, set aside their civilian pursuits to defend the freedom of mankind and to preserve our precious American heritage."
