Garden City resident Billy Glynn was ready to run the ING NYC Marathon last fall when Superstorm Sandy had other ideas.
The storm cancelled the race and cut short Glynn's fundraising efforts on behalf of The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, an organization dedicated to providing “a different kind of healing” to seriously ill children and their families throughout the Northeast, free of charge.
"My fundraising was cut short with the loss of power, Internet and the havoc caused by the storm," he said. "I am giving this one more shot."
To date, more than 20,000 children with serious illnesses have attended The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp free of charge, according to Glynn.
"Camp is a place where the children, first and foremost, can simply be kids," he said. "Certainly, their medical treatments continue while they are at Camp, but those treatments are as unobtrusive as possible. These kids are at Camp to play."
