Ra Honors Garden City's 'Women of Distinction'

Honorees recognized for their commitment to bettering the quality of life in the village.

At this year's Women of Distinction awards ceremony Saturday in Albertson, Assemblymen Ed Ra recognized 13 women who have gone "above and beyond" in their communities, including several making a difference right here in Garden City.

The honorees’ work included service in education, the medical field, community service and volunteerism. Attorney Donnalynn Darling; educator Regina McGowan, Dr. Purnima Popli and Dr. Suzanne Viscovich, principal of Homestead School, were all recognized for their commitment to bettering the quality of life in the village.

“This year’s Women of Distinction Award ceremony was a great tribute to those who have given so much of themselves to enhance our communities,” Ra said.

“It was truly my pleasure to honor those who have made Garden City healthier and happier. Whether they live here or work here, these women have left the town an even more vibrant community than when they entered. On behalf of our entire district, I thank them for all they have done and all they will continue to do."
