Adelphi Students 'Caroling for a Cause' in Garden City

Members of the university's chapter of Circle K International are spreading holiday cheer around the village to help raise money for a Nassau County family in need.

Adelphi University students are spreading some holiday cheer around the village this month all in the name of charity.

Members of the university's chapter of Circle K International, the collegiate level of Kiwanis International, are "caroling for a cause" throughout Garden City to help raise money to buy food, clothes, toys, and other gifts for a Nassau County family in need.

"Adelphi Circle K has gone 'Caroling for a Cause,' as we call it, for several years now. Caroling is a really fun way to give some holiday spirit to our community, both by caroling to Garden City residents and by giving gifts to a family in need," said Sophia Conti, president of Adelphi Circle K. "It brings our club closer together and it brings us closer to the community."

Adelphi Circle K has sponsored a family through the local Holiday Angels program for the past five years. They raised more than $1,300 to assist families in need in 2012 and hope to match, if not exceed, that amount this year.

Holiday Angels families are selected by the volunteer coordinator at the Department of Social Services as well as through school social workers in various school districts.

Songs include favorites like "Let It Snow," "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Frosty the Snowman."

Caroling kicked off Monday and will continue Dec. 15, between 6 and 8 p.m. throughout the village.
