Annual 'Noon Year's Eve' Celebration Tuesday at LICM

Times Square-style ball drop at 4 p.m.

The Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) is setting a course for 2014 with an outer space theme for its annual “noon” year’s eve celebration, “Countdown to 12!”

The annual family-friendly event allows visitors to take part in all the traditional elements of the holiday, including confetti and counting down to the new year, on a schedule designed for children…and exhausted parents.

Activities start at noon on Dec. 31 and feature themed crafts, face painting and a DJ to keep the intergalactic party going all afternoon long.

Is that a UFO hovering over the Museum lobby? No, it’s the New Year’s ball waiting for a Times Square-style ball drop at 4 p.m. to welcome in 2014! In the hours before that moment, families will have the opportunity to create all the elements needed for the celestial celebration, including:

  • Rocket into the New Year hats
  • Space Shakers (noisemakers)
  • Reach for the Stars necklaces
  • Spinning Saucers (spaceship top)
  • Out of this World face painting
  • Alien Pops (snack)

The Long Island Children’s Museum launched “Countdown to 12!” in 2005 to provide families with a party experience appropriate for all members of the family. The Dec. 31 program culminates a busy programming period at the museum to accommodate children and adults looking for family activities during the school break.

The Long Island Children’s Museum is located at 11 Davis Avenue, E. Garden City. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission: $12 for adults and children over 1 year old, $11 seniors, free to museum members and children under 1 year old. Additional fees for theater and special programs may apply. For additional information, contact 224-5800.
