Santa was spotted on the Village Green Sunday as the Garden City Chamber of Commerce held its 58th annual village tree lighting ceremony.

His arrival, via Garden City firetruck, officially ushered in the 2012 holiday season in Garden City as hundreds gathered to catch a glimpse of the man in red.

The event, sponsored for the 18th year by Astoria Federal Savings, featured holiday tunes via the Fivestone rock band and the renowned Garden City High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble directed by Stephen Mayo.

Among the attendees were Roger Eltringham, chamber director and MC; Garden City mayor Don Brudie; Althea Robinson, chamber executive director; Patti Donnelly, chamber director and manager of Astoria Federal, Garden City; Dennis Donnelly, village trustee; Joanne Adams, John Appelt, John Wilton and George Mamos, chamber directors; John DeMaro and Brian Daughney, village trustees, with Eamon Daughney and Edward Ambrosino, Hempstead Town councilman; and NY State Assemblyman Edward Ra.
