Village Tree Lighting This Sunday

Annual community event ushers in holiday season in Garden City.

Santa is polishing his boots in readiness for the Garden City Chamber of Commerce’s 58th annual village tree lighting ceremony set for this Sunday, December 2, 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Village Gazebo

Sponsored for the 18th year by Astoria Federal Savings, featured will be the Fivestone rock band with a selection of holiday tunes plus the renowned Garden City High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble directed by Stephen Mayo, offering a holiday medley.

Astoria Federal Savings staff will have candy canes and giveaways for the children, and Kingsley Bear, Kings Supermarket mascot, will be on hand for photos.

Hot chocolate will be provided by the Garden City Fire Department, who will also serve cookies and munchkins generously donated by Bagelman, Dunkin’ Donuts, Key Food, Kings, My Three Sons Bagel Café, Natural Market and Riesterer’s Bakery.

The highlight will be the arrival of Santa Claus on a huge Garden City fire truck.  Santa will then assist Mayor Don Brudie for the 58th lighting of the village trees – one next to the Gazebo; the other at the mall on Franklin and Stewart Avenues.  For more information, call the Chamber of Commerce at 746-7724, ext. 101; or visit www.gardencitychamber.org.
