Dr. Scott: Storm of Significant Proportion, Continues to Present Challenges

(The following message from Adelphi University president Dr. Robert Scott is posted on Adelphi's website, www.adelphi.edu.)

To the members of the Adelphi community, I hope this message finds you and your families safe. Throughout the storm, I have been coordinating with the University’s Emergency Operations Team and I am pleased to report that, although the Garden City campus lost power and there has been several trees that have fallen or have received significant damage we had no reported injuries on campus or to our response personnel.

Our residential life team has been working to ensure the safety of our students, our OITR staff has been working to ensure our technology infrastructure remains secure and operational, our facilities and grounds teams have been working tirelessly to protect the campus and our buildings and the provost has been in communication with the deans on academic issues. This storm was of significant proportion and continues to present challenges to our recovery process but we shall prevail and Adelphi will come out stronger.

As you read in the last email from our Assistant Vice President for Public Safety, we are closing the University for Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 so that our staff can continue to remove debris and we do not want our students, staff or faculty to attempt to travel while the regional cleanup continues. We will continue to coordinate with regional emergency response personnel on regional recovery progress and will keep you updated via text message, email, Adelphi.edu, Facebook and Twitter.

Our team has been working around the clock to mobilize our response and we continue to work closely with the Nassau County Office Office of Emergency Management as well as Garden City Police and Fire personnel. I would like to personally thank our staff for their selfless and professional efforts to keep us safe and informed. I would also like to thank regional unformed services for their support of the University and for their ongoing efforts to keep us updated.

This storm has created many challenges in our response and recovery process but we will continue to keep our students and the Adelphi community informed of our ongoing recovery efforts. Again, please take all necessary action to keep yourselves and your families safe.

Sincerely, Dr. Robert A. Scott
