Nov. 14 Sandy Updates: Mega Recovery Center, Small Business Info

LIPA Update

LIPA is providing community liaisons to assist residents and business owners during their continuing recovery. Assistance includes answering questions about the power restoration and electrical certification process, accepting electrical inspection certification, and helping to coordinate the process to restore power once the proper documentation is secured.

  • Oceanside Park Hours: 3800 Mahlon Brower Dr, Oceanside, NY 11572, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Cedar Creek Park Hours: 3340 Merrick Rd, Seaford, NY 11783, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mangano Opens Mega Hurricane Sandy Recovery Center at Cedar Creek Park

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano announced that the county has opened a Mega Hurricane Sandy Recovery Center at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford.

UPDATE: Showers, as well as washers and dryers (open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.), are available to residents at Cedar Creek Park. Residents may utilize these facilities free of charge. Free detergent is also available. Click here for all of the details about the recovery center.

Nassau County’s Business Recovery Center

Nassau County’s Business Recovery Center is fully functional and has launched a new website to support its activities, which include a 24-hour hotline. The new website, www.nassaubackinbusiness.org, contains contacts and online links for small and medium-sized businesses in need of assistance of navigating Federal and State disaster relief offerings.

Businesses in need of assistance can call (516) 571-1745, email LEADS@NassauIDA.org for help, or visit www.nassaubackinbusiness.org.  An economic development professional will respond to any inquiry within 24 hours.

Nassau Opens Fourth FEMA Help Center

Mangano also announced Monday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has opened a fourth Disaster Recovery Center for homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained a loss or homelessness as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

Along with the original three opened in Long Beach (Ice Rink) Island Park (Village Hall) and Garden City (Nassau Community College), the county executive has opened a fourth FEMA center at the New Cassel Community Center located at 141 Garden St. in Westbury.

Specialists from the State of New York, FEMA, and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on the types of assistance available. Locations are open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
