An intimate evening of Chamber Music at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center

For an intimate evening of string
instrumental music, come see the Jupiter String Quartet perform on Friday,
February 15, 2013 in the Concert Hall at the Adelphi University Performing Arts
Center (AUPAC) at 7:30 p.m. The AUPAC is located at 1 South Avenue, Garden
City, NY.

On the evening’s program is the music of Franz Schubert and Antonín Dvořák, as
well as the premiere of Associate
Professor Sidney Boquiren’s
“Images,” part two of four pieces in his Book
of Mourning
.

“Images” was deeply inspired
by the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut refers Professor Boquiren ‑ within
the piece is a dramatic chord tribute dedicated to the lives lost. “The same chord is played 26 times (with a melody
underneath). Then directly after these measures, another chord is repeated
(with slight variations) 26 times,” says Boquiren. It is bound to profoundly affect the audience as
they absorb the music.

Jupiter String Quartet formed in 2001. They
are a particularly familial group, consisting of violinists Nelson Lee and
Megan Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel (older sister of Meg), and cellist
Daniel McDonough (husband of Meg, brother-in-law of Liz). After 20 years of making
music together, their tightly knit ensemble has firmly established itself as an
important voice in the world of chamber music. For more information on the
group, visit jupiterquartet.com.
