Mildred Cirona, Avid Volunteer, Dies at 92

Mildred Amelia Cirona of Naples, FL and Garden City, NY passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Dec. 15, surrounded by her husband and family. She was 92.

Born in Brooklyn in 1921, Ms. Cirona later graduated from Girls High School and was employed by the New York Telephone Company. In 1945, she married Frank J. Cirona.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; her children, Margaret (Andrew O'Rourke), Janet (Daniel Buckley), Peter, Stephen and Ellen; her grandchildren, Matthew, Laurie, Kelly and Brian; her sisters, Doris Altonji and Joan Kain, and many nieces and nephews.

Ms. Cirona was an active volunteer with numerous civic and charitable organizations, a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for more than 40 years and enjoyed golfing as a member of the Cherry Valley Club in Garden City and Vineyards Country Club in Naples.

A funeral Mass was held at St. Joe's Thursday before a private burial at Long Island National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
