Parking Field #5: Work in Parking Field #5 is on-going. All curb and sidewalk work has been completed and the contractor is now preparing the lot for paving.  The first row of parking is currently partially closed and will be fully closed this week/early next week for paving and striping. Weather permitting, work will be completed in this field by early next week at which time it will be reopened to the public.

In the meantime, parking is available on both Fifth and Sixth Streets; please take notice of the temporary parking restrictions posted by the police department. The owners of 520 Franklin Avenue have also arranged parking on the east side of Franklin Avenue and have personnel outside to direct traffic there. Parking Field #6E (east of Franklin Avenue, south of Seventh Street) is also available for use during construction. Please exercise caution when driving or walking near areas of construction. We thank you for your patience and cooperation during this much needed construction improvement.

If you have any questions, contact the Garden City Public Works Department at 516-465-4004 (Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

Parking Field #12: Upon the completion of Parking Field #5, work will begin in Parking Field #12, on the east side of Franklin Avenue between Twelfth and Fourteenth streets. This work will be done in four phases to minimize the disruption to traffic. People should anticipate limited parking and detours in this field during construction. More details will be provided as this project nears commencement.

Curb, Sidewalk and Road Improvements: Infrastructure improvements will be done throughout the village this summer. Streets scheduled for work are Plaza Road, Main Avenue, Fifteenth Street, Boylston Street, Tremont Street, Spruce Street, Prescott Street and Bedell Avenue. During construction, detours should be expected at these locations. Residents in these areas will be given notice ahead of the start of construction. More details will be provided as this work nears commencement. It is anticipated that this work will begin in July.

Shop and Dine in Garden City and Support Local Merchants: I would like to ask you to do your part to support all businesses within Garden City. I would also like to encourage all residents and professionals within Garden City to shop locally on New Hyde Park Road, Seventh Street and Franklin Avenue. Your patronage will be appreciated and is needed.

Many residents consider shopping and dining in our business districts as “experience shopping” because they meet friends and neighbors along the way and have an opportunity to interact with them. This is in stark contrast to frantically dashing through the crowds in the mall or the big box retailers.

I encourage residents to make a conscious effort to choose Garden City as the place to shop and dine. Customer service, selection and quality are outstanding.  While shopping or dining let the merchant know that you appreciate them and all that they offer.

Please Water Our Village Trees: I would like to remind residents that it is their responsibility to water village trees planted in front of their homes. Despite some rain this past spring, the summer will hopefully have some wonderful hot sunny days so please note that if you recently had a tree planted in front of your home, please take the time to water it. The proper way to water is to first loosen the soil around the tree if it has become baked hard and then apply water.

Watering hours are from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Odd-numbered house addresses should water on odd-numbered days and even-numbered addresses on even-numbered days. Be sure that sprinkler timers are adjusted for the correct dates and times. Thank you for your cooperation.

Board of Trustees Meeting Schedule: During July and August the board of trustees will meet once a month. The dates are Thursday, July 21, and Thursday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m.
