Community Corner

Hurricane Sandy and Holiday Shopping

Dear Editor,   My family and I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. This is truly a time to reflect on all that we are grateful for. We would like to thank all the merchants, neighbors and friends who helped out during Hurricane Sandy. Whether it was with a hot meal, a warm smile, a friendly word or a warm place to charge our Electronics Garden City truly came together. We are very proud to live in such a community. In the coming weeks leading to the holidays I wish that everyone in our community will remember those that have helped us. It is very sad to read of stores being opened earlier and earlier on Thanksgiving. I say to all of you do not send the message that this is ok. These stores should be closed. What are we coming to? Soon this too will be an optional holiday in the name of greed. We can stop this. Tell these giants Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy and any other store that puts greed above family that we will not shop on a day of thanksgiving. We can send a strong message it starts one person at a time. This is day to be grateful, reflect on what is truly important to us and spend quality time with our families. I say to you support the stores in our community and the entrepreneurs who are there for us. The little guy who let you come and sit all day with a cup of coffee in a warm safe place. The store that had candy for the trick or treater's who could not walk safely down the block. The people who support our community. We are a village made up of very intelligent, respectful, caring people. We have much to be thankful for. Our hearts go out to those still in need and we will do what we can to help. From my family to yours Happy Thanksgiving. Here are some of the websites and names of shops that helped our community. These are some of the many individuals who have gone above and beyond over and over. They deserve your patronage.
