Letter to Editor: Schumer Understands Issues Associated with Helicopter Noise

Len Schaier, president of Quiet Skies over North Hempstead, submitted the following letter to theeditor.

In a recent letter to the editor, I discussed my concerns about how the problem of helicopter aircraft noise in the Town of North Hempstead was being addressed.

I am happy to report that, after a teleconference with staff members in Sen. Schumer's Long Island and Washington, D.C. offices, it is clear to me that they understand the issues associated with helicopter noise here on Long Island.

We discussed transitions to and from the North Shore route, flights over water, limitations of single engine helicopters, safety, procedural issues, potential homeland security issues and making use of all routes to and from the East End. The senator's staff explained their plans, and I am therefore confident we will have an integrated approach that, when implemented, will get us meaningful relief from helicopter noise.
