Alert Neighbors Help Police Nab Amherst Street Burglar

Residents not only reported incident as soon as it happened but also took picture of the subject.

After conducting an investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a 39-year-old East Rockaway man on Nov. 9 for a burglary that occurred on Oct. 15 at a residence on Amherst Street.

This investigation was a success due to the alertness of neighbors who not only reported the incident as soon as it happened but also took a picture of the subject. The detectives and officers assigned to the case were able to check this picture with neighboring communities and police databases to determine the identity of the subject.

It was then determined that the subject had an appointment with a Nassau County parole officer where he was placed under arrest by the Garden City detectives.
