Car Smashes Into Tree on Franklin Ave

Accident forces Garden City police to shut down Franklin between Fourth Street and Cedar Place.

At 11:33 a.m. today, a car traveling north on Franklin Avenue smashed into a tree. The driver was out of the vehicle upon the arrival of fire department personnel. According to Fire Captain Gil Frank, a passerby assisted the driver through a rear door.

The driver states he was cut off by another motorist and lost control and hit a tree while trying to avoid a collision. The slick roads from this morning's snowfall also likely played a part in the accident.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital via Nassau County ambulance.
