A Queens man faces robbery charges after he was discovered burglarizing a Garden City home in September, according to Nassau County Police.
Cops said a 55-year-old woman was returning to her Pell Terrace home when police said she discovered an unknown car in her driveway and her front door wide open. As she approached her home, police said Robert E. Washington, 50, of St. Albans, was leaving the house with her jewelry in a pillow case.
Washington threatened to shoot the victim when she confronted him, though he reportedly showed no weapon, and fled in the unknown car with the jewelry, police reported.
The incident happened at 11:40 a.m. on Sept. 20, cops said.
Garden City police officers assisted with the investigation and safeguarded the crime scene. "Physical evidence" found at the scene led detectives to arrest Washington Friday in an unidentified Queens hotel, detectives reported. Washington was in possession of an unspecified amount of marijuana in a clear plastic bag, cops said.
The stolen jewelry has not yet been found.
Washington is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, third-degree grand larceny, and unlawful possession of marijuana. He will be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
