Cops: Woman Punched, Robbed Victim Nearby

Police looking for help finding woman responsible for Saturday night robbery in Westbury.

A woman was punched and robbed on a Westbury street Saturday night and Nassau County Police are looking for help finding the person responsible.

The 46-year-old victim was walking east on Winthrop Street in Westbury when she was approached by another woman who asked to use her cellphone, cops said. When the victim refused, the subject shoved her to the ground and punched her in the face, police reported.

The subject fled toward School Street after swiping the victim’s pocketbook containing her cellphone and personal papers, officers said.

The robbery happened at about 8 p.m. Saturday, cops said.

The victim refused medical treatment at the scene.

The subject is described as a black woman, about 5 feet 3 inches tall, heavy set, and was wearing a black coat, blue hooded sweatshirt, and black head covering at the time of the incident.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
