Crime Blotter: $3,000 Worth of Electronics Stolen From Upper Crust Café

Garden City police responded to the following calls May 10-17.

The following information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate conviction.

May 10: Police conducted a routine truck inspection on Clinton Road, inspecting seven trucks, placing two trucks out of service and issuing 47 tickets.

May 12: Officer Hennessy arrested a female 63-year-old from Port Washington for the shoplifting of a BCBG dress valued at $348 at Lord & Taylor.

May 12: Officer Reynolds observed a male 24-year-old from College Point northbound on Main Street making a right turn onto Franklin Avenue from the left lane. He was stopped and upon an investigation was arrested for DWI (.11 percent blood alcohol content), unsafe turn and improper lane use.

May 13: Three male subjects entered the T-Mobile store on Old Country Road where one of them took three prepaid phones valued at $30. All three subjects then ran from the store without paying for the phones and fled the scene in a black sedan.

May 13: Officer Wehr stopped a female 33-year-old from Mineola for passing a Stop sign on Edgemere Road. Upon his investigation, Officer Wehr arrested the subject for aggravated unlicensed operation for having three open license suspensions, passing a Stop sign and for failure to stop before making a right turn on red.

May 13: A digital camera was removed from a vehicle parked in a Rockaway Avenue driveway.

May 14: A 16-year-old was transported to Winthrop Hospital for alcohol poisoning.

May 14: Officer Oswald discovered a one-car accident where the car was southbound on Franklin Avenue when it mounted a curb and struck some trees. The driver was not injured but a female passenger suffered minor neck pain. The driver, a male 28-year-old from Hempstead, was arrested for DWI (.14 percent blood alcohol content), unlicensed operation and uninsured operation.

May 14: Officers responded to the vicinity of Cathedral Avenue and First Street for a report of an accident where a vehicle rode on the lawn of a Cathedral Avenue residence damaging sod and shrubs and then continued across a First Street residence coming to rest against the house causing damage to the landscaping and building. The gas line to the residence was damaged causing a gas leak. The fire department responded to shut off the gas and render the area safe. The operator of the vehicle, a female 23-year-old from West Hempstead, had left the scene but was located later by Officer Dallolio at her residence where she was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

May 15: The police department, fire department and fire marshals office are conducting an arson investigation where someone set fire to a door mat in front of a Second Street residence.

May 16: The police department is investigating a burglary at the Upper Crust Café on Franklin Avenue where the front door was found damaged and numerous electronic items valued at $3,000 were removed from the premise.

May 16: A male 24-year-old from Central Islip stopped an officer on Seventh Street and advised him that he had an open Nassau County warrant. Upon verification, the subject was placed under arrest for an outstanding Nassau County DWI warrant.

May 16: Upon their investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a male 22-year-old from Franklin Square for assaulting an Adelphi student on campus May 9 by kicking the victim in the face causing him to suffer a broken nose.

May 17: The Garden City Police Department provided traffic control for the Nassau County Police Department during their police memorial ceremony held on Franklin Avenue.

May 17: Officer Hennessy arrested a female 22-year-old from Rockville Centre for grand larceny for the theft of four designer handbags and other miscellaneous items from Lord & Taylor. Total value: $1,950.

May 17: Garden City detectives, along with U.S. postal inspectors, arrested a male 23-year-old from Brooklyn for a grand larceny that occurred in March. The subject was responsible for cashing in numerous money orders totaling more than $9,900, that were purchased illegally from a bank account of a Garden City resident. These money orders were cashed in at four different post offices.
