Crime Blotter: BMW Stolen From Parking Field 12, Domestic Dispute Leads to Resident's Arrest

Fight between brothers leaves one gasping for air.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Oct. 25: Loose change and a cell phone were removed from a vehicle parked at a Poplar Street residence.

Oct. 26: Officer Touhy arrested a female 52-year-old from Levittown for the theft of more than $340 in assorted clothing from Lord & Taylor.

Oct. 26: A 2008 BMW valued at $45,000 was reported stolen from Garden City Parking Field #12.

Oct. 26: Officers responded to Franklin and Tenth Street for a report of an accident where a vehicle had struck a light pole. Upon arrival, it was determined that both the driver, a female 29-year-old from Port Washington, and a passenger, a female 26-year-old from Valley Stream, received minor cuts and abrasions attributed to the accident. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of the driver for Aggravated DWI (.24 percent blood alcohol content).

Oct. 26: A GPS and an iPod were removed from a vehicle parked at a Mulberry Avenue residence; a camera and loose change were taken fro a vehicle parked at an Avalon Road residence; a laptop computer was removed from a vehicle parked at a Claydon Road residence.

Oct. 27: Officer Laurita responded to Franklin Avenue for a report of a vehicle driving erratically. Witnesses pointed out the vehicle to the officer as it was stopped at a traffic light at Old Country Road. As the officer approached the vehicle, he observed that the driver, a male 40-year-old from Brookville, was exhibiting signs of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Officer Laurita then arrested the driver for DWI (.08 percent blood alcohol content) and DWI-Drugs.

Oct. 27: Officer Touhy responded to a Garden City residence for a domestic incident and determined that one brother had placed another brother in a choke hold restricting his breathing. After a brief investigation the subject, a male 21-year-old, was arrested at Nassau Community College for criminal obstruction of breathing.

Oct. 28: A digital camera valued at $515 was reported stolen from an office at Stratford School.

Oct. 29: The Garden City Police Department assisted the Adelphi University Public Safety Department during the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) sponsored National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. During this event, residents were able to turn in old/unused prescription medicines on the Adelphi University campus. In addition, residents were able to drop off prescription medicines at Garden City Police Headquarters during the event. All medicines collected will be destroyed by the DEA.

Oct. 29: A Nassau County police sergeant alerted the Garden City Police Department of a dangerous situation where a male was sleeping in his auto on Old Country Road with the engine still running. Upon arrival Officer Oswald and the Nassau County sergeant determined that the vehicle was still in gear. The officers were able to safeguard the vehicle by carefully putting it in gear. The subject, a male 32-year-old from Glen Cove, was then awakened and placed under arrest for DWI (.17 percent blood alcohol content).

Oct. 29: During severe weather where it was snowing and raining, the police department responded to numerous storm-related calls, including 10 residential alarms, five calls for assistance, an auto accident and a traffic light malfunction on Old Country Road at Clinton Road.

Oct. 30: Personal papers were removed from a vehicle parked at a Magnolia Avenue residence.

Oct. 30: During two unrelated incidents, two underage youths were transported to a local hospital for apparent alcohol intoxication.

Oct. 30: An employee’s cell phone was stolen from Cold Stone Creamery.

Oct. 31: A 24-year-old Hofstra student states he was riding his bicycle on Lindbergh Street at 12:30 a.m. when a vehicle pulled up to him. The driver exited the vehicle and pushed him off the bicycle to the ground and started to punch him repeatedly before taking his backpack containing a laptop computer, an I-Phone and a wallet. The victim stated that the subject, described as a male black, then left the scene in his vehicle. The victim received several abrasions and lacerations to his hands and knees but refused medical assistance.

Oct. 31: Police officers and members of the Special Police conducted special Halloween patrols throughout the village. No serious incidents were reported.

Oct. 31: A female 31-year-old from Freeport was arrested by Officer Bandl for the theft of $141 in assorted costume jewelry and men’s clothing from Sears.

Nov. 1: A female 22-year-old from Baldwin was arrested by Officer Reynolds for the theft of $340 in jewelry and fragrances from Lord & Taylor.

Nov. 1: On Oct. 29, a resident on Maple Street discovered that a snow blower valued at $500 was removed from his unlocked garage. As a result of an investigation conducted by Garden City detectives, a male 42-year-old from Hempstead was arrested at his residence for larceny. The detectives also recovered the stolen snow blower after determining that it was being kept at another location in Hempstead.
