Crime Blotter: Lord & Taylor Thieves, Reckless Cabbie

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Sept. 24: Adelphi University reports the theft of a heavy duty drill valued at $235 from a boiler room on the campus.

Sept. 25: Officer Hennessy arrested a 39-year-old woman from Brooklyn for the theft of more than $500 in merchandise from Lord & Taylor.

Sept. 26: The right quarter panel to a vehicle parked in Parking Field 9E was damaged by unknown persons.

Sept. 26: Officer Sommer stopped a vehicle for speeding (45 mph in a 30-mph zone) southbound on Clinton Road between Commercial Avenue and Meadow Street. The driver, a 32-year-old woman from Georgia, was charged with unlicensed operation, speeding, unregistered operation, uninsured operation and driving while the vehicle’s registration status was suspended. The vehicle was also impounded.

Sept. 27: Officer Caputo arrested a 28-year-old Queens woman for the theft of $486 in assorted merchandise from Lord & Taylor.

Sept. 27: A laptop computer was reported stolen from a room on the Adelphi University campus.

Sept. 27: A door to a Kensington Road garage was found to be damaged.

Sept. 27:  A handbag was removed from a vehicle parked at a Clinton Road business.

Sept. 27: Police report an identity theft in which a cell phone account was opened in a resident’s name without authorization.

Sept. 27: Sgt. Jacobsen observed a taxi cab, traveling south on Franklin Avenue, make an unsafe left turn onto Eleventh Street causing a northbound vehicle to veer off the roadway. The cab was stopped and upon an investigation, the driver, a 47-year-old man from Hempstead, was charged with driving while having two active suspensions against his driver’s license.

Sept. 27: Officers were assigned to traffic details for the Sacred Heart 5K Run.

Sept. 28: Officer Oswald observed a vehicle traveling south on Franklin Avenue weaving in and out of the northbound lanes. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver, a 19-year-old teen from Westbury, was placed under arrest for DWI (.08 percent blood alcohol content), two lane violations and uninsured operation.

Sept. 28: An air bag was stolen from a vehicle parked at a Chester Avenue residence.

Sept. 29: Officer Oswald observed a vehicle eastbound on Stewart Avenue weaving lane to lane. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 36-year-old man from Hempstead, was arrested for DWI (.17 percent blood alcohol content), unsafe lane changes, impeding traffic, defective brake lights, unlicensed operation and uninsured operation.

Sept. 30: Officer Touhy arrested a 54-year-old Queens woman for the theft of $452 in assorted merchandise from Lord & Taylor.

Sept. 30: An Adelphi student reports her credit card was stolen resulting in $2,900 in unauthorized charges against the card.

Sept. 30: Police conducted a commercial vehicle inspection on Washington Avenue, inspecting 11 vehicles, placing nine out of service and issuing 65 tickets for safety and traffic violations, including eight hazardous material violations, two defective tire violations and an unsecured load violation.
