Crime Blotter: Operator of Damaged Vehicle Arrested for DWI

The vehicle was reported to have extensive front-end damage and was driving erratically.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Aug. 1: The police department is investigating the reported theft of a credit card from a Seventh Street office. It was also discovered the card was then used to purchase items at local establishments.

Aug. 2: A GPS device valued at $300 was removed from a vehicle parked at a Washington Avenue residence.

Aug. 4: A GPS device, an EZ Pass, and a cell phone were removed from a vehicle parked at a Meadow Street residence. The loss totaled approximately $250.

Aug. 4: A Garden City resident reported that someone opened four credit cards in her name and made over $2,600 in unauthorized charges at various department stores.

Aug. 5: Officer Sansone responded to the intersection of Meadow Street and Washington Avenue for a report of an auto accident. Upon arrival it was determined that a vehicle operated by a 31-year-old male from Bay Shore was traveling north on Washington Avenue when it passed a red light striking a vehicle operated by a 55-year-old female from Hempstead that was traveling west on Meadow Street. The female suffered a minor chest injury. The male was not injured but was arrested for DWI (.10% blood alcohol content) and uninsured operation.

Aug. 5: A Suffolk County Transportation School Bus carrying two adults and two children struck the Chestnut Street Overpass. There were no reported injuries. The operator, a 32-year-old female from Glen Head, was issued a traffic ticket for disregarding bridge height clearance signs.

Aug. 6: Vehicles were reportedly entered at three residences located on Meadow Street, Tremont Street and Grove Street. There is no reported loss at this time. 

Aug. 6: After receiving numerous noise complaints, an appearance ticket was issued to a village resident for a loud party.

Aug. 7: Officer Oswald observed an electric powered bicycle southbound on Cathedral Avenue driving in an erratic fashion, in addition to not signaling a left turn onto Seventh Street. The vehicle was stopped on Seventh Street where an investigation led to the arrest of the operator, a 32-year-old male from Hempstead, for DWI (.12% blood alcohol content), possession of alleged cocaine, two lane/turn traffic violations, unregistered limited use vehicle and unlicensed operation.

Aug. 7: Garden City Police Department received a 911 call for a vehicle with extensive front end damage, with smoke coming out of the engine compartment, driving erratically on several streets in Garden City. Detective Madden observed the vehicle westbound on Stewart Avenue at 70 MPH in a 30 MPH zone and also observed the vehicle pass a steady red light at the intersection of Wellington Road. The vehicle was then stopped and the operator, a 46-year-old male from Mineola, was arrested for DWI after refusing breath test, speeding and passing a red light. The investigation is continuing in regards to the extensive damage to the suspect vehicle.

Aug. 8: Someone entered a vehicle on Lincoln Street by breaking the passenger side window and removed a car stereo/DVD player from the center console. Total loss was $250.

Aug. 8: A pay loader at the village yard was found vandalized. The pay loader was spray-painted and a window and two lights were found broken. Total damage amounted to $450. 

Aug. 9: Numerous paint scratches were found on a 2002 Acura that was parked in Parking Field 11. The value of damage is unknown at this time.

Aug. 9: A Schwinn mountain bike valued at $400 was stolen from the rear of CVS.
