Crime Blotter: Phone Scam, Prostitution, Missing Elderly Man Found

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

July 8
: A Garden City parking permit was removed from a vehicle parked on Vassar Street.

July 10: During an investigation in Parking Field 2S, Garden City detectives arrested a female 31-year-old from Hempstead for prostitution and a male 46-year-old from North Merrick for patronizing a prostitute.

July 10: Graffiti was found on a residential fence on Old Country Road.

July 10: A vehicle left the scene after striking and damaging a parked vehicle in Parking Field 7S.

July 10: A representative from Melville-based remodeling company was issued an appearance ticket for conducting door-to-door solicitations in the western section of the village.

July 10: A Hilton Avenue resident reports a phone scam where a person posing as a representative of Publishers Clearinghouse telephoned her to advise that she won the grand prize but to receive the money she would have to send a $3,000 check to the company to cover the taxes. The resident never received the prize.

July 11: Exterior light fixtures to a Brook Street residence were found damaged.

July 12: Officer Oswald stopped a male 18-year-old from Jericho for unsafe driving on Clinton Road. The subject was arrested for underage DWI (.15 percent blood alcohol content), an unsafe lane change and impeding traffic.

July 12: Officer Fracassa arrested a male 45-year-old from Valley Stream at a Garden City residence for visiting an acquaintance in violation of a Nassau County Court “Stay Away” order of protection.

July 12: An 81-year-old male Garden City resident was reported missing from his residence but was found by investigating officers at Garden City Pizza.

July 13: The department took two reports where residents reported that unauthorized persons opened fraudulent credit card accounts by using their identity and personal information.

July 13: Officer Federlein arrested a female 68-year-old from Westbury for leaving the scene of a property damage accident on June 25 at Adelphi University.

July 13: Loose change was removed from a vehicle parked at a Cherry Valley Road residence.

July 14: Officer Oswald arrested a male 31-year-old from Westbury for aggravated DWI (.21 percent blood alcohol content) after stopping him for driving aggressively on Washington Avenue where he was observed driving over the center line and moving unsafely from lane to lane.

July 14: Officer Sansone stopped a vehicle on Clinton Road at Pine Street for numerous equipment violations including a loud muffler. The vehicle was impounded after it was determined to be unregistered and for having improper license plates. The driver, a male 19-year from Hempstead, was cited for driving an unregistered auto, uninspected auto, improper plates and several equipment violations.

July 15: Officers responded to a railroad gate malfunction on Cathedral Avenue.

July 15: An intoxicated 20-year-old female was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

July 16: Officers responded to a traffic light malfunction on Cherry Valley Avenue at Stewart Avenue.

July 16: Loose money was removed from a vehicle parked at a Meadow Street residence.

July 16: During a domestic incident investigation, a male 23-year-old was arrested for assaulting another family member. The subject resisted arrest causing one officer to receive a knee injury requiring transport to a local hospital.
