Crime Blotter: Police Vehicle Nearly Struck

Garden City police responded to the following calls between March 8-15.

March 8: The trunk to a Porsche parked in a Franklin Avenue business garage was found scratched. Unknown value of damage.

March 8: An older model gray car left the scene of an accident with another vehicle on Cathedral Avenue and Seventh Street. Two female passengers to the vehicle that remained at the scene were transported to Winthrop hospital for minor injuries.

March 8: Someone attempted to remove four rims and tires from a BMW parked in Field 7N. The lug nuts to the tires were removed but the tires were still on the vehicle. The investigation is continuing.

March 9: Police conducted a truck inspection on Old Country Road at Clinton Road, inspecting 10 trucks, placing two out of service and issuing 71 traffic tickets.

March 9: A Meadow Street resident reports that sometime over the past month, someone entered the residence and removed a stereo, a lap top computer, three televisions and assorted jewelry. Two locks to a rear patio door were found to be in an unlocked position. The value of the stolen property is unknown at this time.

March 10: Officer McCarthy arrested a female 35-year-old from Roosevelt for petit larceny at Sears. The subject took approximately $190 in assorted jewelry and perfume and left the store without paying for them.

March 10: Officer Hennessy arrested a female 30-year-old from Ozone Park for the theft of a BCBG skirt valued at $158 from Lord & Taylor.

March 10: Officer Hennessy arrested a female 27-year-old from Elmont for the theft of a BCBG skirt, dress and jacket valued at $654 from Lord & Taylor.

March 11: Garden City detectives are investigating a reported burglary at a Hamilton Place apartment where assorted jewelry (unknown value) was stolen. Homeowner returning home from work found the apartment door was unlocked.

March 12: Police conducted a seatbelt inspection on Clinton Road, issuing 20 tickets for seat belt violations, one ticket for a cell phone violation and 18 tickets for misc. traffic violations.

March 13: Officer Oswald observed a male 35-year-old from Glen Cove driving north on Franklin Avenue when he almost struck a police vehicle that was stopped on another investigation with its emergency lights flashing. The subject was stopped and arrested for aggravated DWI (.18 percent blood alcohol content), failure to move over for an emergency vehicle, unsafe speed, unsafe lane usage and uninsured operation.

March 14: Officer Matos stopped a male 23-year-old from Glen Head on Clinton Road for no front plate. An investigation revealed that the subject had two outstanding suspensions for prior DWI arrests. He was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, unlicensed operation, no front plate and uninsured operation.

March 14: Detectives arrested a male 60-year-old from Garden City on an outstanding bench warrant issued by the Garden City Village Court for non-payment of fines attributed to fire code violations.

March 14: Garden City Police officers as well as members of the Garden City Special Police assisted MTA Police with numerous road closures throughout the village along the Hempstead line due to the arrival of the circus train.

March 15: Detectives are investigating an incident where a Franklin Avenue business reports that someone had forged a signature on a company check and attempted to collect on it in an amount of more than $4,000 at a location in Flushing.

March 15: As a result of an ongoing investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a male 20-year-old from Massapequa Park for felony possession and sale of a controlled substance (Oxycodone) which occurred on Cambridge Avenue during January.

March 15: Officer McCarthy arrested a male 19-year-old from Garden City South for the theft of an XBOX wireless router (value: $80) from Sears.
