Crime Blotter: Missing Teen Found, Bayberry Avenue Burglary

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

June 19: Officers are investigating an incident on Stewart Avenue where a vehicle stuck another vehicle, leaving the scene without exchanging information.

June 19: Officers conducted a commercial vehicle inspection on Clinton Road inspecting nine trucks, placing three out of service and issuing 70 tickets for various traffic and safety violations, including three suspended license violations, one defective brake violation and an improperly secured load violation.

June 19: Officers discovered two large containers in the roadway on Stewart Avenue. The contents were cleared by the Fire Department and removed by the Village DPW Department.

June 19: Brass fire caps were removed from the fire sprinkler systems to several Franklin Avenue commercial buildings.

June 19: The rear tail light assembly to a vehicle was damaged while parked in a Washington Avenue residential driveway.

June 20: A Huntington moving company was issued an appearance ticket for posting advertising signs on public property. 

June 20: Officer Buonaiuto impounded a vehicle on Seventh Street, stopping the driver, a male 23-year-old from Bellerose, for defective brake lights. The driver was charged with driving with a suspended license, suspended registration, uninspected vehicle, uninsured vehicle and defective brake lights.

June 21: A vehicle parked at Garden City Plaza was struck and damaged by another vehicle that left the scene without stopping.

June 21: At approximately midnight, officers responded to Community Park for reports of disorderly youths and fireworks. The officers’ investigation at the scene resulted in the issuance of appearance tickets for trespass to eight males, ages 18-19, from West Hempstead and Franklin Square.

June 21: Officer Sansone stopped a vehicle for traveling 45 mph in a 30-mph zone on Cathedral Ave at Third Street. The driver, a male 28-year-old from Uniondale, was arrested and charged with driving a vehicle without an interlock device as per a DWI court decision, suspended license for a prior DWI offense, suspended license for six open license suspensions, revoked license, speeding, expired registration and uninsured operation.             

June 22: Garden City and Nassau County officers investigated a report of a missing 14-year-old youth from a Seventh Street location. The youth was located one and one-half hours later at a Mineola location.

June 23: Burglaries were reported at Dunkin Donuts and Garden City Salon and Spa on Seventh Street. Both premises were apparently entered through rear doors where the locks to the doors were found damaged. At this time an unknown amount of currency and a television were taken from the Garden City Salon and Spa. There is no reported loss from Dunkin Donuts at this time.

June 23: Officer Baker observed a vehicle traveling west on First Street at Cathedral Avenue on the wrong side of the roadway and not signaling a turn onto Mayfair Avenue. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a female 31-year-old from West Hempstead, was arrested for aggravated DWI (.18 percent blood alcohol content), unsafe turn, improper lane usage and uninsured operation.

June 24: A bicycle was reported stolen from the Stewart Manor Rail Road station.

June 24: Officers responded to Adelphi University after staff reported that they received a letter in the mail threatening that there was an explosive device in the Olmsted Theatre. The building was searched by Garden City police and Adelphi University public safety officers and no suspicious devices were found.

June 24: Due to severe storms, officers responded to numerous calls for service including traffic light malfunctions, railroad gate malfunctions and residential alarms. 

June 25: A burglary occurred at a residence on Bayberry Avenue. Three rear doors to the residence were found to be forced open. The property taken from the residence is undetermined at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

June 25: Officer Touhy arrested a male 66-year-old from Hempstead for criminal trespass after he entered a woman’s bathroom in a Franklin Avenue office building and looked under a stall to view an occupant in the stall.

June 25: A male 55-year-old from Garden City was cited for leaving the scene of a two-vehicle property damage accident that occurred on June 17 on Ring Road.
