Crime Blotter: Resident Awakes to Intruder in Her Bedroom

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.


Oct. 15: A bicycle was reported stolen from an unlocked garage on Garden Street.

Oct. 16: A cell phone was reported lost or stolen in the vicinity of Fourth Street.

Oct. 17: A wallet and jewelry were removed from a vehicle parked on First Street. Sunglasses and an IPOD were removed from a vehicle parked at a Franklin Court residence. A GPS device was removed from a vehicle parked at a Damson Street address.

Oct. 17: The department is investigating reports of criminal mischief along Railroad Avenue apparently from golf balls being struck from a location on the south side of the Main Line railroad tracks.

Oct. 17: Officers responded to a traffic light malfunction on Clinton Road at Wyatt Road.

Oct. 18: Officers responded to a railroad gate malfunction at the Hilton Avenue crossing.

Oct. 19: Stereo headphones were removed from a vehicle parked on Grove Street.

Oct. 19: A resident reports that numerous unauthorized credits cards were opened in his name and there were numerous charges made against the cards.

Oct. 19: Officer Russell observed a vehicle at 2:50 a.m. stopped at a green traffic light on Clinton Road at Meadow Street. The vehicle’s headlights were not on and when the vehicle finally started to travel north, it swerved from lane to lane. The driver, a 22-year-old woman from Queens, was subsequently arrested for DWI (.14 percent blood alcohol content), impeding traffic, unsafe lane usage and driving without headlamps activated.

Oct. 19: Officer Oswald stopped a vehicle on Meadow Street for several aggressive driving violations. The driver, a 38-year-old woman from Hempstead, was arrested for DWI (.15 percent blood alcohol content), speeding, unsafe turn, unsafe lane usage, open alcoholic beverage and unlicensed operation.

Oct. 19: Money, a GPS and other items were removed from a vehicle parked at a Garden Street residence.

Oct. 20: Garden City detectives arrested a 22-year-old man from Long Beach for an Oct. 7 incident where the tires to a vehicle parked at the Cherry Valley Country Club were found slashed. He was also charged with possession of heroin and two outstanding Long Beach Town Code warrants.

Oct. 20: Garden City detectives arrested a 22-year-old man from Levittown for the possession of five bags of alleged marijuana.

Oct. 20: Unauthorized charges exceeding $600 were made against a resident’s ATM account.

Oct. 20: An unknown vehicle fled the scene after striking and damaging a vehicle parked on Meadow Place.

Oct. 21: A Vanderbilt Court resident reports waking up at 1:20 a.m. and seeing a male subject inside her bedroom. The subject fled the house. The subject is described as a light skin male in his 20s, 5-7, medium build, wearing a dark color sweat suit. At this time there is no reported loss. Nassau County Police Department canine officers and detectives assisted with the investigation. The investigation is continuing.

Oct. 21: While investigating a two-vehicle accident on Stewart Avenue at Franklin Avenue, Office Reilly arrested one of the drivers, a 26-year-old from Hauppauge, for driving with a revoked license due to a prior DWI arrest and driving with five driver's license suspensions.

Oct. 21: Garden City detectives arrested a 57-year-old Flushing man for a domestic incident that occurred on Oct. 18 at Garden City Plaza. The subject allegedly threatened his ex-wife in violation of a Family Court Order of Protection.

Oct. 22: Officer Dallolio responded to Meadow and Lindbergh streets, where a vehicle driven by an inexperienced driver drove off the road onto the property of a residence. The driver, a 25-year-old from Hempstead, was arrested for DWI (.14 percent blood alcohol content) and unlicensed operation.

Oct. 22: There were reported thefts from a vehicle parked on Franklin Court and from a vehicle parked on Meadow Street. Items stolen included a watch and loose change. A witness walking her dog reports she observed a subject described as a male Hispanic, 5’ 6”, thin build, wearing baggy dark clothing, in her vehicle on Franklin Court. The subject fled the scene on foot in a southbound direction.

Oct. 22: The rear bumper and fender to a vehicle parked in Parking Field 5 was damaged by unknown means.

Oct. 21: A 34-year-old Hempstead man responded to the Garden City Village Court to answer traffic tickets issued to him by Garden City police officers. It was determined that the subject was wanted on a Hempstead Village traffic warrant and was placed under arrest by Garden City detectives.
