'Suspicious' Car Fire in Lakeview Under Investigation

A car fire in Lakeview on Tuesday, May 22, is being labeled "suspicious," according to police and fire officials.

Around 9 p.m. Nassau County Police and Lakeview firefighters responded to the report of a fire inside a silver Chevrolet Camaro that had been parked in a small lot on Woodfield Road near the Lakeview train station and a small strip of stores.

Upon their arrival, the fire had already been put out with a fire extinguisher by one of the nearby store owners, according to Lakeview Fire Chief Heather Senti.

The fire itself was small and quickly contained, but Senti says, "It was suspicious in nature."

The Nassau County Fire Marshal was called in to investigate. 

Police: Shots Fired Into Lakeview Home

Shots were fired into a Lakeview home Monday, May 21, while two women were inside, according to Nassau County Police, who are investigating the incident.

The bullets were fired into a residence on Jefferson Avenue around 11:40 p.m. on May 21. No one was injured. Detectives do not know if one person or multiple perpetrators fired the shots.

Franklin Square Banks Robbed

Nassau County Robbery Squad detectives are investigating a bank robbery that occurred on Friday in Franklin Square. 

According to police, a male subject entered the TD Bank branch located at 690 Hempstead Tpke. at 7:48 p.m., and handed a demand note to the teller.  The teller complied and the subject fled the scene on foot westbound on Hempstead Turnpike with an undisclosed amount of money.

Four employees and two patrons were in the bank at the time of the robbery, but no injuries were reported.

The subject is described as a male white, 30-35 years of age, 6’-6’1” tall, wearing sunglasses, a yellow baseball hat, a long sleeve black shirt, and blue jeans. No further description is available.

Another bank in Franklin Square, a branch of Roslyn Savings Bank, was robbed Thursday morning. 

According to detectives, a male subject entered the bank, which is located inside the Pathmark Store at 460 Franklin Avenue around 10:40 a.m. and presented a note, demanding money, to a teller. The subject left the bank with an unknown amount of U.S. Currency. He fled on foot southbound through the parking lot toward Franklin Avenue. At the time of the robbery there were two employees and two customers in the bank, but no injuries were reported.

The subject is described as a male white, 6’0” tall, heavy build, black sunglasses, wearing a grey sweater, and black baseball cap.

Workers Fall From Construction Site in West Hempstead

Two workers fell from a scaffold early Wednesday, May 23, at the West 130 construction site in West Hempstead.

The two men were working three floors up in the rear of the new apartment complex (formerly known as the Alexan) that is being constructed on Hempstead Avenue, the site of the old Courtesy Hotel.

The men fell approximately 25 feet to the ground and were both injured.
Details of what happened were not immediately known. They were transported to Winthrop Hospital in Mineola.

Man Assaulted in Hempstead 

A 29-year-old man was assaulted in Hempstead on May 21 while walking with a friend on Seaman Avenue. Around 11 p.m., they were approached from behind by three masked black men, approximately 18 years of age.

The subjects began shooting at the victims, striking the 29-year-old victim in the torso and right hand.  The subjects fled the scene on foot westbound on Delaware Place.  The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition. The friend was unharmed.

Arrest at Garden City Park Gas Station

A Mineola man was arrested on May 25 after allegedly breaking a store window at the Gulf Gas Station at 2399 Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park at 12:45 a.m. Harpreet Singh, 24, also allegedly spit at officers and kicked one while being arrested.
