Prior to the officers arrival, the suspect, a New York City man, had left the scene, but was apprehended a short time later, at approximately 10:59 p.m., on Hempstead Avenue in Lynbrook. The defendant then reportedly struck the victim in the face with a beer bottle causing a deep laceration to the nose. The victim was transported to an area hospital by private automobile where several stitches were required to close the wound. Fontana was arrested near the scene and charged with Assault 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
