Rockville Centre
On Nov. 25 at 4:13 p.m., a complainant from Rockville Centre
reported that at approximately 3:20 p.m., an unknown male menaced her
with a black handgun while in the vicinity of N. Forest Avenue and Maple
Avenue in Rockville Centre.
Williston ParkA Williston Park man has been charged with attempted second degree
murder after an argument over the AMC TV series “The Walking Dead”
prompted him to shoot his longtime girlfriend, Nassau Police said. Jared Gurman, 26, was out early Tuesday morning when an argument over
the hit cable show spilled over into heated text messaging that
culminated when he
allegedly shot his girlfriend in the back using a .22 caliber rifle, police said.
MalverneThe Malverne Police Department responded to a
911 call on Nov. 29 for
a male refusing to leave a Nassau Boulevard home. Upon the officers'
arrival, it was discovered the suspect, an ex-boyfriend of the victim,
had sexually assaulted the victim. Prior to the officers arrival, the suspect, a New York City man, had
left the scene, but was apprehended a short time later, at approximately
10:59 p.m., on Hempstead Avenue in Lynbrook. He was arrested by Police
Officers Joseph Chiafari, Brian Schmidt and Orlando Prado for the
reported sexual abuse. The suspect was transported to the Malverne
Police Department for processing, and then brought to Nassau County
Police Headquarters for lodging until his arraignment at First District
Court on Nov. 30.
BellmoreAllen Feldman, the former president of the
Bellmore Jewish Center,
was arrested Nov. 20 and charged with second-degree grand larceny by
extortion and second-degree possession of a forged instrument in
connection to an incident that allegedly took place in September. Nassau County Police did confirm the arrest, but they did not add additional details pertaining to the charges against Feldman. Feldman has already appeared twice at First District Court in Hempstead,
but in both cases, the hearings were adjourned and he was released on
his own recognizance. He is due at First District Court on March 3,
2013.
MerrickA Farmingdale man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly assaulting another patron at
Jugs & Strokers bar in Merrick. According to police, James Fontana, 42, was running away from the Sunrise Highway bar when police arrived on the scene. Further investigation determined that Fontana was involved in a verbal
dispute with a 23-year-old male victim outside the bar. The defendant
then reportedly struck the victim in the face with a beer
bottle causing a deep laceration to the nose. The victim was transported to
an area hospital by private automobile where several stitches were
required to close the wound. Fontana was arrested near the scene
and charged with Assault 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon
3rd Degree. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead
on Sunday.
