Crimes Nearby: Confirmed Arson, Robbery Attempt and Alleged Harassment

Mineola Arson: Mineola police are searching for a male suspect between 15 and 17 years old who allegedly set a garbage can under the southern bleachers on fire at Hampton Stadium. If caught, the youth will be charged with a misdemeanor.

Rockville Centre Robbery Attempt: A Hopewell Junction man tried to rob a North Village Avenue bank early Friday afternoon, but left empty-handed and was apprehended by village police minutes after he fled the bank, officials said. According to Rockville Centre Police, Ralph V. Costa III, 23 entered the Chase Bank at 120 North Village Ave. at around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and passed a demand note to a teller, threatening to use a gun. Before the teller gave him any money, Costa fled the bank on foot. Four minutes later, Rockville Centre Police Officer Alberto Melendez located Costa at the RVC train station, where he was arrested.

Man Who Fell From Pistilli Building Confirmed Dead: Lynbrook police confirmed the death of a man who fell from the Pistilli Corporate Center July 1. Police did not provide any additional details, but are reportedly investigating whether the man intentionally jumped or accidentally fell from the building, located at 303 Merrick Road in Lynbrook.

Lynbrook Man Arrested for Stalking, Harassment Incidents at Church: The Nassau County Fifth Precinct arrested a Lynbrook man June 30 after he allegedly stalked and harassed priests and parishioners at Our Lady of Peace Church located at 25 Fowler Ave. in Lynbrook. Victor Tosner, 57, was charged with stalking third-degree and harassment first-degree and was slated for arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead on July 1.
