The following information is provided by the Nassau County and Rockville Centre police departments and the Nassau County District Attorney's office. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.

Mineola
Carle Place
  • A person committed suicide in the Holiday Inn on Old Country Road in Westbury Jan. 24 at 2:55 p.m., according to Nassau County detectives. Upon arrival at 369 Old Country Road police were informed by an employee of the hotel that an odor was emanating from a room on the second floor. Police evacuated the building of all employees and guests. The Nassau County Police Emergency Service Unit, Emergency Ambulance Bureau, Carle Place Fire Department and Fire Marshals responded to the hotel. The Emergency Service Unit Hazmat team entered the room and discovered an Elmont man, 21 years of age, unconscious. He was pronounced at 8:48 p.m. by Nassau County Advanced Medical Technician at the scene. Six employees were evaluated, but refused medical treatment at the scene. The chemicals were rendered safe by hazmat and removed by the Fire Marshal's office. The room and hotel were deemed safe and re-opened at 9:30 p.m. allowing guests and employees back inside.
West Hempstead
  • Nassau County police arrested two more West Hempstead spa workers this month, charging them with practicing unlicensed massage and prostitution.
Rockville Centre
  • A Rockville Centre resident was struck and killed by a car Jan. 24 on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre. According to Nassau County detectives, around 11:45 a.m., a 59-year-old male was operating a 2003 Peterbilt tractor trailer eastbound in the right lane of Merrick Road at Oceanside Road when he struck Juan Galdos, 84, of Rockville Centre. Galdos was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Galdos was crossing Merrick Road from north to south in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision. Safety checks were performed on the vehicle at the scene. Detectives report no apparent criminality at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
Merrick
  • Two people were confirmed dead and three others were injured after a car overturned in the woods alongside the Southern State Parkway early Sunday morning. Kervens Boutin, 30, of Hempstead, was operating a Nissan Maxima westbound on the Southern State Parkway with four passengers when he lost control and struck several trees, according to police. Pronounced dead at the scene were passengers Bryan Rivas, 20, and Blossom Castro, 22, both of Hempstead. Boutin and another passenger, Marlo Cabrera, 19, of  Bronx, were transported to Nassau University Medical Center with critical injuries. An additional passenger, Antonio Rivas, 22, of Hempstead, was transported to Winthrop Hospital, also with critical injuries. Boutin was charged with Reckless Driving. Additional charges are pending the outcome of the accident investigation. Witness to this accident are asked to contact the New York State Police at 631-756-3300.
