UPDATE: Deadly Accident in E. Garden City

Teen loses control of his vehicle and strikes another in southbound lane, according to police.

Update: July 26, 11 a.m.

Police have confirmed that the deceased has been identified as Joseph Raymond, 57, of Westbury.

A serious auto accident on Merrick Avenue in E. Garden City left one dead and three others injured Monday, according to Nassau County's Third Squad.

Detectives report that at 11:24 p.m. a 1997 Toyota, traveling northbound, driven by a male, 17, lost control and struck a 1996 Honda, which was traveling southbound, being driven by a 57 year old male.

The driver of the Honda was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 1:08 a.m. by hospital staff. The three passengers of the Toyota, a female, 22, and males 15 and 16, were transported to area hospital for treatment of injuries, according to police.

Identification of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification. Police are continuing to investigate this incident.
