Duo Charged in Countywide Credit Card Skimmer Scheme

Nassau cops and Secret Service tracked down two men responsible for swiping thousands of dollars on fake credit cards at Roosevelt Field Mall.

A joint investigation by Nassau County Police and U.S. Secret Service led officials to Roosevelt Field Thursday afternoon to find two men who used skimming devices to steal financial information from victims' credit cards.

Cops said Kenneth Osias, 30, of Brentwood, used a skimming device at his workplace to capture credit and debit card numbers between Dec. 14 and April 8.

Osias handed over the information to Otis Barnes, 23, of Brooklyn, who then created fake cards used to make several purchases around Nassau County.

The scam resulted in more than $9,000 in recorded losses to several banks.

Barnes and Osias were arrested at 2:10 p.m. Thursday. Both men were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, second-degree unlawful possession of a skimming device, and third-degree unlawful possession of personal identification information. Additionally, Barnes was charged with two counts of possession of a forged instrument and a second count of unlawful possession of a skimmer device.

Both men will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
