The event, held each year in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week, begins at 12:30 p.m.
This year’s national theme is “Prevent Kitchen Fires.” Statistically, two of every five home fires start in the kitchen, according to the Garden City Fire Department.
Learn how to keep your family safe from the dangers of fire. The afternoon will include full dress inspection of the fire department by village officials, followed by firefighting and fire safety demonstrations.
Assistant Chief Tom Strysko, this year’s event coordinator, “We have once again put together a great family event that serves two purposes, first and foremost, is to teach our residents the importance of fire safety. Secondly, it is a great way for our residents to meet our volunteer firefighters and learn a bit about our department.”
Annual Fire Prevention poster contest entries will be on display during the event. Student posters will be on display for all to see.
Those attending the event will receive free giveaways, brochures, balloons and plastic fire helmets for the kids. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.
