Garden City Firefighter Elected Chairman of County Commission

Former GC Chief C.Richard Gardner becomes Chairman of the Nassau County Fire Commission.

Garden City volunteer firefighter C. Richard Gardner was elected on May 9 to the position of Chairman of the Nassau County Fire Commission.

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano administered the oath of office to Gardner, who has volunteered more than 30 years with the Garden City Fire Department and is an ex-chief. 

The Nassau County Fire Commission acts as a liaison between the Nassau County Fire Service, and county government. They have internal committees, which monitor, and when necessary, provide assistance and guidance in resolving matters related to the county's fire and EMS services. The commission is responsible for the promulgation of the Nassau County Fire Prevention Ordinance, approving amendments, and hearing variance requests when required.

In addition, the commission, in accordance with Civil Service Guidelines, conducts interviews, grants appointments, and promotions for Fire Marshals, Fire Communications Technicians, and EMS Instructors when such positions are available.
