Cipullo: Neighbors Can Help Neighbors in the Prevention of Burglaries

Police investigating rash of residential burglaries where forced entry was made through the rear entrance to the residence.

The Garden City Police Department reports that on Nov. 11, there were burglaries committed on Russell Road, Kenwood Road and Birch Lane. During each burglary, forced entry was made though the rear entrance to the residence.

On Nov. 11 and 12, Nassau County reports numerous similar burglaries in surrounding jurisdictions.

The Garden City detective division is working closely with the Nassau County detectives in solving these cases. In addition, the department is increasing their residential patrols with both marked and unmarked vehicles.

Police Commissioner Ernest Cipullo is asking the public for their assistance, whether it be anything they witnessed or any information recorded on their residential security camera systems. Residents can relay such information to Garden City detectives by calling 465-4108 or 465-4109.

In light of these burglaries in the village and surrounding communities, the department asks residents that if they have an alarm system and/or a security camera system, keep them turned on. The department also recommends leaving interior and exterior lights on. Residents should call police right away when they see a suspicious person or vehicle as well as hearing any suspicious noise. Residents should even call if their dog is barking in the middle of the night.

"Neighbors can help neighbors in the prevention of burglaries and in the apprehension of suspects," Commissioner Cipullo said. "Many suspects have been caught by the police as a result of residents promptly reporting suspicious behavior.”
