The Nassau County Police Department's Crimes Against Property (CAP) Squad reports the arrest of three Bronx men on Friday, July 30, in connection with a grand larceny that occurred in Garden City.
According to CAP Detective Rispoli, the defendants acted in concert to cash counterfeit checks totaling in excess of $13,000 against the account of a Garden City-based risk management company before an internal audit uncovered the fraudulent activity.
Detectives said it was subsequently discovered that the bogus checks were negotiated at a check cashing business in the Bronx. An ensuing investigation led to the defendants' arrests.
Jorge Reyes, 22, Matthew Penalo, 21, and Antoine Mitchell, 21, are all charged with third-degree grand larceny and are slated for arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead Saturday.
