Dead Body Identified as East Garden City Shooter

Sang Ho Kim's body washed ashore early Monday on Iona Island, just south of the Bear Mountain Bridge in Rockland County.

Police have confirmed that the dead body washed ashore in Rockland County Monday morning is Sang Ho Kim, a Queens man who'd been on the run ever since he opened fire inside a local office building in East Garden City Sept. 25.

Fingerprint comparisons positively identified the body, police said.

Kim worked as a vendor for Savenergy, a local lighting fixture company located at 645 South Street, in the industrial area near Stewart Avenue. Police say Kim, angry over a business deal gone bad, killed one employee and seriously injured the company's CEO before fleeing the scene. Zachariah Yong Jae Shin, 25, of Whitestone, Queens succumbed to his injuries. The second victim, John Hyng Choi underwent surgery at Nassau University Medical Center.

Police had reason to believe Kim was hiding out in Putnam County after his white Honda Pilot was discovered in the Philipstown area, along Route 9D just north of the Village of Cold Spring, NY.

A passerby walking in the area early Monday notified police after seeing the body, which had apparently washed ashore on Iona Island, just south of the Bear Mountain Bridge.
