Well, that's not exactly true. I'm not sure how many people look over their shoulder. I've been here 7 years and everything is fine. GCPD is very diligent and keeps things in order. They o a great job. I don't know anyone that doesn't feel safe. As with all news, when 1 thing happens it's always blown up. I wonder DZ where you moved instead?

@ Bill Sweeney. I have taken all of my information from this here Patch with reading residents comments. More then a few over the past year or so that I have been reading have said that they don't feel safe and have to make sure their doors are always locked etc.....and these comments have come from long time residents. All you have to do is take a look at the police news on here each week and see that there is more than enough to persuade someone to look to other areas in which to live. It's no secret that Hempstead is the absolute worst neighborhood on all of Long Island. So if you want to pay a good sum of money for a house there and pay the village taxes that you do then thats fine. I'm not saying that you cant walk the streets there or that there are bullets flying left and right. What I am saying and once again I am just confirming Steve f comment is that as a home buyer i have looked into GC and have moved on. It was also you that just said on here that " seems that Hempstead is creeping more and more into GC, did you not.

First of all, everyone in GC gets annoyed when something bad happens. And the first reaction is Hempstead is coming. That's human nature. The facts are the facts...how is the crime? Does GCPD protect the town. For the money we pay in taxes, are we not in easily top 5 towns on Long Island based on community, amenities, services, schools, location? The proof is in the pudding...per sq.ft. of house and land there may not be another town on LI as expensive. People pay for 100x100 lots and houses the same as people pay for 2 acres in very nice North Shore "estate" towns. There must be a reason...people with this type of money, etc. are not morons. I bet that people in Orient lock their doors...this isn't 1953 anymore, unfortunately. And quite frankly, was their every really an excuse not to take 2.5 seconds to turn a knob? You and everyone else is more than entitled to your opinion, but I'm not really sure, since most people who live in GC live and die for it, that posting something like this here will get the response you desire. Best of luck to you and yours...I hope you find the perfect town for you.

@ Bill. I see that you're getting very defensive in this discussion. As I've stated before it was not my intention to bad mouth GC. I am simply adding validity to the statement made here by Steve and yourself that you seem to think that hempstead is creeping into GC and this does not make the area attractive to homebuyers and businesses. Perhaps you should take a moment to reflect on your statement and what it exactly meant. From where i stand it seems that you and other residents. An make comments here but if someone else chimes in and supports those statements then you're on the defensive and GC is a " top town" . I hear you loud and clear, best of luck to you too.
