MTA: Train Strikes Person Near Merillon Avenue Station

Victim struck by westbound train Wednesday night, MTA said.

A person was struck by a Long Island Rail Road train near Merillon Avenue Wednesday night, according to the MTA.

Officials confirmed that at about 9:15 p.m., an unidentified person was struck by the 8:21 p.m. train from Oyster Bay to Jamaica.

The train was held near the platform with passengers inside for about 30 minutes as emergency crews and officials secured the scene.

The status of the victim could not be confirmed by MTA Police as of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Several other trains due to pass through Merillon Avenue were held at other platforms.

Train traffic is currently running again but riders can expect delays of up to 50 minutes on Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson, and Oyster Bay lines.
