Nearby: Boy Approached While Walking in Stewart Manor

An 11-year-old boy walking in Stewart Manor Friday was approached by a man believed to be in his 60s who screamed at the victim from his car, Nassau County's Third Squad detectives said.

The incident occurred while the boy was walking westbound on Chester Avenue toward Covert Avenue around 3 p.m.

According to detectives, a maroon vehicle with gray trim, possibly a Subaru or Hyundai, drove up alongside the victim. The driver yelled to the victim who became frightened and began to run, police said.

The vehicle followed him for approximately two blocks until he reached another group of children at which time the car drove away in an unknown direction, according to a police report.

Cops said the vehicle is further described as possibly being a station wagon with some rust and had several items hanging from the mirror. The driver was a male white, in his 60s, with long gray hair, police said.

Anyone with information related to the above incident is urged to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
