Propane BBQ Tank Sets Fire, Damages Jackson St. Home

A visitor to the residence received minor burns to his legs and arms, refused further medical assistance at the scene.

Both the Garden City police and fire departments responded to a propane barbecue fire on Jackson Street Aug 7. According to firefighters, a propane tank was on fire with some extension to the home.

Charcoal briquettes were used inside of the propane grill and the radiant heat caused the tank to catch fire. Firefighters cooled the tank until the relief valve closed and the fire was extinguished.

Police report a visitor to the residence received minor burns to his legs and arms when he tried to extinguish the fire. He refused further medical assistance at the scene, according to police.

LIPA had to shut down the electric service due to the electric wires being exposed to the heat. Nassau County Fire Marshal Hazmat investigators responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation into this incident.
