Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Bust in E. Garden City

Pennsylvania man had more than 50 pounds of marijuana in his car, police said.

A traffic stop landed a Pennsylvania man in jail after more than 50 pounds of marijuana was discovered inside his vehicle, Nassau County Third Squad detectives said.

Deshawn Reilly, 35, was arrested in E. Garden City at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday.

According to detectives, after conducting a car stop on Ring Road on a vehicle with an expired Georgia registration, an officer, after speaking to the driver, became suspicious of a boxed package that was inside the vehicle.

A K9 officer and his dog responded to the scene, police said, and during a routine examination around the vehicle K9 Jax did indicate a “Positive Alert” for drugs.

Further investigation and “Alert” by Jax indicated that the package in the vehicle did in fact contain a quantity of marihuana in excess of 50 pounds, according to a police report.

Reilly was placed under arrest without incident and charged with criminal possession of marihuana, 1st degree, and a Vehicle & Traffic Law infraction. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Wednesday.
