2014/15 Village Budget Calendar Announced

Garden City budget sessions kick off Feb. 8 with a facilities tour and capital presentation.

The Garden City Board of Trustees will continue its in-depth review of the proposed 2014/15 village operating/capital budgets Saturday, Feb. 8. Work sessions will continue through to March (if necessary), leading to an April public hearing on the budget.

All sessions are scheduled to take place in the boardroom at Garden City Village Hall, 351 Stewart Avenue.

2014/2015 Village Budget Calendar:

  • Saturday, Feb. 8 at 8:30 a.m.: Facilities Tour and Capital Presentation (Location to be determined)
  • Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m.: Work Session #1
  • Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m.: Work Session #2
  • Thursday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m.: Work Session #3 (if necessary)
  • Monday, April 7 at 8 p.m.: Budget Public Hearing and Adoption
Trustee Richard Silver, finance chair, said this year's goal is to make documents publicly available on the village website prior to these meetings to enable residents to "follow along in a more helpful way."

"An executive summary will provide a high level review of the budget process," he said.

Deputy mayor Nick Episcopia added that this year's process will reduce the "granular" work. "I think the process was healthy but it got really granular going over item after item," he said of past budget processes.
