CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GARDEN CITY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS GOLF TEAM
Congratulations to the Garden City High School Girls Golf team for winning the Nassau County Girls High School Championship. The team was led by Marisa Cameron, Alex Michielini and Mackenzie Horl. All three girls have also qualified for the New York State Championship to be held at SUNY Delhi June 8 through June 10. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to with them good luck.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GARDEN CITY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS AND BOYS LACROSSE TEAMS
Congratulations also to the Garden City High School Girls and Boys Lacrosse Teams for playing in the Class B Long Island Championship games and defeating their opponents.
On Saturday, the Boys Lacrosse Team defeated Sayville by a score of 9-2 to win their third straight Long Island Championship and 13th overall for Garden City (20-0). On Wednesday, the also defeated Yorktown to advance to the New York State Championship.
The Girls Lacrosse Team defeated Eastport-South Manor by a score of 11-7 and gives them a shot at their seventh straight state title. They finished the season 15-5 and will compete in the NYS Semi Final today against Vestal in Cortland. It is truly a testament to all of the teams for all their hard work and dedication this season.
THE BELMONT FESTIVAL AT GARDEN CITY - FRIDAY, JUNE 8
Tonight is the 14th Annual Belmont Festival at Garden City - A Salute to the Wounded Warriors. This year’s event which will have a red, white and blue theme, will be held on Friday evening June 8 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Seventh Street. The opening ceremony will begin at 6:45 p.m. on the main stage. The five bands that will be featured this year include; Speak Easy, New Vintage, Five Stone, The Village Music Makers and Jerry and the New Comers. There will be some new special events such as Irish Step Dancing along with activities for the children including face painters and clowns. Please mark your calendar and make it a point to attend this annual family event.
In order to accommodate the event as safely as possible, Seventh Street will be cleared of parked vehicles starting at 4 p.m. and will be closed to all traffic at that time. Parking fields to the rear of the stores (7S and 7N) will remain open. If your car is parked on Seventh Street, please make sure that it is removed prior to 4 p.m. so that the Police Department does not need to take action to move these vehicles.
POOL SEASON TO BEGIN SATURDAY, JUNE 9
One of the most attractive facilities within the Village is our Garden City Swimming Pool. Its 56th season will begin tomorrow, Saturday, June 9. All residents are encouraged to become members of the Swimming Pool and enjoy all that it has to offer to all age groups. There is an affordable membership level available for everyone.
NATIONAL FLAG DAY
By an Act of Congress, dated August 3, 1949, June 14 of each year was designated "National Flag Day" and the week in which June 14 occurs as "National Flag Week". The "Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance" was made an official Flag Day ceremony by an Act of Congress in 1985.
The National Flag Day Foundation, Inc. is asking all citizens of the United States to display the flag during that week and that all Americans join in the annual “PAUSE FOR THE PLEDGE” ceremony on June 14 at 7 p.m. by reciting in unison the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag and Nation. Please remember that displaying the flag at night requires proper illumination.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETINGS
The next Board of Trustees Meeting will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 8 p.m. This meeting is held in the Board Room at Village Hall. I encourage all residents to attend Board of Trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of Village issues from a first-hand perspective.
