CPOA Nominates Theresa Trouvé for Village Trustee

The five-member nominating committee of the Central Property Owners' Association has unanimously nominated 44-year Garden City resident Dr. Theresa Trouvé for the position of village trustee for the 2014-2016 term, the CPOA announced on its website.

According to a press release, Dr. Trouvé, who lives with her husband, Joseph Caroselli, at 54 Second Street, is current CPOA president and served as secretary in 2012-2013. She is a member of the Joint Conference Committee and has participated in interviewing candidates for positions on village commissions and in the focus groups for the recent Recreation Department survey.

Dr. Trouvé said she is focused on the well-being of the village going forward. "Two of the most challenging issues confronting the residents of Garden City are maintaining the distinctive character of the Village over time and controlling our finances in terms of maintaining fiscal stability and restraining taxes. These significant issues are interrelated and can be accomplished," she said.

"Further, I am committed to the strong relationship we enjoy in Garden City between the Village Board of Trustees and the Property Owners’ Associations. Theirs has proven to be a relationship of solidarity and open communication. This relationship is a major force in maintaining the quality of life we enjoy in our incorporated village. I believe that my professional experiences in the fields of education and business will serve me well in functioning as a productive member of the Garden City Village Board of Trustees.”

Dr. Trouvé holds a Ph.D. in comparative literature from New York University, an M.A. with Distinction and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from Hofstra University, and an undergraduate degree from Saint John’s University with honors in French.

Dr. Trouvé is retired from a career in education, the greater part of those years spent in administration. Positions she held included district supervisor of language arts and reading, district supervisor of foreign languages and high school principal.

Over the course of that time, she was called as a consultant to the New York State Education Department in the areas of English Language Arts writing skills development, foreign language instruction for the regular education and special education populations and integrating technology into instruction.

One of her most gratifying accomplishments was the design and implementation of a pilot program in conversational Italian for special education and remedial reading students based on the premise that mastering conversation skills in a second language would help strengthen cognitive skills in general. Currently, Dr. Trouvé is a small business owner.

She is the mother of four grown children, all of whom graduated from Garden City schools. Two of her children reside in the village with their families. Her son-in-law and her daughter–in-law graduated from Garden City schools. Six of her 13 grandchildren currently attend Garden City schools. She is a member of the congregation of Saint Joseph’s Church and was an active member of the Garden City International Student Exchange and the Garden City PTA. As a volunteer, she taught reading to adults in a Salvation Army program.
