The Garden City Planning Commission met Thursday evening at Village Hall to discuss whether to approve the expansion of an existing restaurant and allow for the development of a new restaurant, both located on Franklin Avenue in Garden City.
During the meeting, Planning Commission members asked both business owners to present their prepared reports for the expansion of Calagero’s Restaurant, a small Italian eatery located at 919 and 923 Franklin Avenue, and for the creation of a new sushi restaurant, to be named Tyku Sushi Bar and Lounge, at 935 Franklin Avenue.
Unfortunately, “Both business owners were adjourned due to questions regarding additional parking” Planning Commission Supervisor Michael D. Filippon told Patch. “ They have been asked to resubmit their parking plans to the commission members at the Planning Commission's next meeting on Wednesday, May 9.”
In order for the expansion and creation to be approved, both business owners are required to present reports to the commission showing how they would be handling issues such as trash collection, outdoor dining and parking availability, among others. The presentation of these reports is to be made by the owners of each establishment and then discussed by commission members for their approval.
As per the commission, both owners must redesign their plans to include additional parking for their customers before the expansion of Calagero’s and the creation of Tyku Sushi Bar and Lounge can be approved.
The next Planning Commission Meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall. The Planning Commission holds meetings on the second Wednesday of each month.
